Successful landscapes include a balance of both hardscape and softscape. Hardscape refers to the solid, hard elements in a landscape design. These features stay the same and endure over time. Examples of these elements include:
- water features
- outdoor kitchens
- and the like
Hardscape elements require careful consideration as they are designed to accommodate a predetermined range in the number of users that will utilize the site feature in a variety of circumstances/occasions. For example, when designing a hardscape feature such as a terrace, driveway, or pool, the primary question that needs to be answered is, how many people does the landscape feature need to accommodate on a regular basis? The best designs ask that form follows function, meaning that the design must meet the needs of the clients. Therefore, you wouldn’t design a 10’x10’ patio for a family that likes to regularly entertain 10-20 people, nor would you design a driveway with less designated parking spaces than are regularly required, and a pool used primarily for exercise (lap swimming) shouldn’t be less than 45’ in length. An Infinity Design Group, we will work with you to create a design that is both beautiful and functional.
There is a multitude of hardscape materials that are available for use in construction projects. These materials are diverse and range in size, color, thermal properties, texture, and price. Infinity Design Group is very knowledgeable and will educate and advise our client on the best material for any construction project. We will consider the project goals such as function, aesthetic, schedule and budget to determine the appropriate materials for the hardscape.
We incorporate the use of a diverse range of materials in our designs. Some of these include:
Walkways and Terraces:
- and composite materials like Azek
